That Friday Feeling
Three quick updates on the GCSE fiasco this Friday evening. Then let’s all enjoy a brief break with family and friends.
1 FOI Request
In response to Ofqual’s hard-to-believe statement that they don’t have records of the interviews that underpinned the findings of their investigation, London Headteacher Kenny Frederick has submitted this FOI request:
22nd November 2012
Dear Ms Stacey
I refer to my request for information dated 12th November 2012 and your reply dated 21st Nov 2012. I do not consider you have responded adequately to my request.
In Appendix 1 (p. 88) of the Ofqual report entitled ‘GCSE English 2012’ published on 2 November 2012 (‘the Report’) refers to a report commissioned by Ofqual for Capgemini ‘to investigate why some centres’ results differed significantly from their predictions’. We refer to this as ‘the Investigation’.
We request the following documents:
1.(1) Any documents including but not limited to letters, memoranda, instructions, briefs, including any electronic communications or recordings of conversations from Ofqual to Capegemini or anyone instructed by or working on behalf of Capegemini in connection with the Investigation.
2.(2) Copies of all information including but not limited to, memoranda, electronic communications or recordings of conversations written papers, data, including notes or record s or summaries of the 100 interviews carried out pursuant to The Investigation collected by or supplied to Capgemini or anyone instructed by or working on behalf of Capegemini pursuant to The Investigation.
This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Kenny Frederick
Principal
George Green’s School
2 Judicial review:
Confirmation today: the hearing has been brought forward to 11-13 December. The defendants are required to submit their evidence by 27 November. There is optimism that the Court’s verdict will be known before the Christmas break on 21 December.
3 AQA credit notes:
You’ll remember our outrage that AQA said they would issue credit notes to schools deciding now not to enter students for the pointless January round of GCSE exams.
Today we were about to write a public letter to their Chief Executive Andrew Hall, when a contact of ours received an email from AQA that said “of course” they would give a refund - a school just needs to ask.
My view is that AQA should make this explicit in their letter to schools (which only talks of credit notes). I will write and publish a revised letter to Andrew Hall here over the weekend.
School leaders would be well advised to email or write a letter to AQA asking for confirmation that the money that is from their school budget will be returned to their school budget.
Talking of the weekend - have a good one.
